Hollywood loves pitting monsters against each other. We have Godzilla vs. King-Kong, Alien vs. Predator, Dracula vs. Frankenstein, and even Sharktopus vs. Ptreaccuda. I'm still crossing my fingers for a Sharknado battle crossover. Now with Hollywood making our own beloved superheroes fight each other such as in Batman vs. Superman and Captain America: Civil War, my dream coming true may become reality.

The monsters I want to talk about though are Freddy vs. Jason. These enders are remembered because they appear more human, but have the sick twist of being the last person you want to meet in your dreams or on a walk through your dark neighborhood. Pitting these two against each other brings to life that even monsters have their contenders, even Freddy or Jason can have a bad day.

Freddy vs. Jason grossed a whopping $114 million, making it the highest-grossing piece in the Friday the 13th series and second-highest in the Nightmare on Elm Street series. If those numbers were not enough to make the film a critical hit, it's also actor Robert Englund's final appearance to this day as the infamous Freddy Krueger.

In this day and age, do you know what all this leads to, a film of two famous monsters fighting each other and becoming incredibly popular? Memes.

Interestingly enough, horror movies can have a pretty grand sense of humor.

20 Freddy VS Jason In Real Life

via imgtip.com

The faces behind the monsters, Robert Englund on left (Freddy) versus Kane Hodder on right (Jason). It was actually Ken Kirzinger who played Jason in the Freddy vs. Jason crossover.

However, Kane Hodder is still best known for Jason's portrayal in the Friday the 13th series.

Ken Kirzinger bares the title of tallest Jason, standing at about 6'5. As mentioned before, Freddy and Jason appear more human than the monsters we usually see in battle crossovers. In fact, any fan can see the actor's bodies and faces and recognize the monsters they so excellently portray. The two actors/stuntmen would be a hit at any movie convention, especially with those piercing stares.

19 Jason With A Croc

via yukepo.com

Jason's hockey mask is a movie icon. We see his mask and we think of fear, blood, and monstrosities. The mask makes him devoid of emotion. We can never tell what this man is thinking. When a character puts on a mask, they often do it to become something not completely human. A mask is more than hiding an identity, it's redefining a character. The moment they don a mask, you know the story is about to get a good kind of crazy.

That stupid croc shoe looks like his mask and that's hilarious.

This giant monster just holding a shoe and loving that it matches his mask. The fact that the shoe is a croc only makes it more funny because I associate crocs with laid-back wholesome dads who like to garden when it's 70 degrees or more out.

18 American Monsters

via ballmemes.com

You know what's scarier than a man with finger knives and a psychopath in a mask? Politicians. Watching Hillary and Trump debate is way more painful for me than watching Jason cut Freddy's head off.

Non-horror fans often argue that they watch movies to escape reality.

"If the movies are scary and morbid, what's the point? I want a happy ending." Yet still for horror fans, the genre is an escape. This meme is proof of that. Monsters like Freddy and Jason are crafted, they are simple and complex in all the right places, and they won't set our country on fire for real.

Now who would be a better president, Freddy or Jason? I think Freddy is better at communication, so I'd pick him.

17 Rock, Paper, Scissors

via roflrazzi.com

Let's be real, Jason would beat Freddy at rock, paper, scissors. Freddy is only capable of scissors. The issue with this meme is that it's Freddy who is challenging Jason. Does Freddy know he is going into a fight he cannot win? He's almost like Edward Scissorhands.

Freddy does like a tease his victims a little, so that's probably the case in this meme.

But let's talk about that glove: Freddy made it himself out of sheet metal, pipes, fishing knives, rivets, and an old leather work glove in his boiler room. With that in mind, I'd like to bring up my amazing work in conversation as well.

Apparently the glove in Freddy vs. Jason has a design where needles are in place of knives in one scene of the scenes.

16 This Could Be Us

via pinterest.com

Okay, I don't know the history of this picture. I don't want to know the history of this picture. Why are they posing like they are doing an engagement photo-shoot?

What I do know is that is meme targets couples who have different tastes.

Some people just don't enjoy getting scared. Though this meme seems to be saying something along the lines of you need to "embrace your inner monster" to enjoy a horror movie.

However, a big number of people don't enjoy these movies to see horrible things happen to people. A prominent reason people like horror movies are because it gives you an adrenaline rush. These rushes cause our brains to send out chemicals that induce a special feeling that we can perhaps run much faster or fight a bear. We feel excited!

15 Choose Wisely

via plus.google.com

We got a lot of monsters right here! In order we have Chucky from Child's Play, Pennywise from It, Jason from Friday the 13th , Freddy from Nightmare on Elm Street, Regan from The Exorcist, Ghostface from Scream, Jigsaw from Saw, Pinhead from Hellraiser, and the Joker from Batman.

Now which would you choose to hang out with for 3 hours?

I imagine few people would pick Jason or Freddy. Those guys do some serious damage. Regan? She's a little girl, but I still probably wouldn't pick her because she's gross and barfs on people. Sometimes we just rather be in physical pain and in a state of fear rather than get barfed on.

The last one I'd pick would be Pennywise, that clown is messed up.

14 Different Freddies

via twitter.com

Five Nights at Freddy's has become a horror hit since its release in 2014 as probably one of the most stressful point and click games. Quite different from Freddy Krueger, this Freddy is an animatronic bear.

Don't let the fact that it's an animatronic bear fool you though, because this thing eats people if you're not careful.

While sharing a name, the Freddy's have some things in common like being supernatural forces, enders, and Krueger has also been in video games such as in Mortal Kombat X.

But why Freddy? It's not the sort of name you'd imagine to strike fear into the hearts of those around you. Maybe it's all in the subtle simplicity that a monster takes the guise of something ordinary. Freddy is simple, a common name. We like to take what's common and give it a twist.

13 It's Dangerous To Go Alone

Regardless of what any screenwriter might say, this is my personal head-cannon for how Jason obtains his iconic machete. Just as Link in The Legend of Zelda adventures though the vast and mysterious land of Hyrule, using strength and skill to slay monsters of all kind, so does Jason Voorhees patrol the less-vast perimeter of Camp Crystal Lake, murdering teenagers in a myriad of ways.

Spoiler alert: Jason ends Freddy with this deadly weapon.

Fortunately for said teenagers, just as the original iteration of Link, Jason is only capable of moving at one speed. The original line in this scene is "it's dangerous to go alone, take this." With his machete in hand, Jason does not need to hear these words. He is the danger.

12 Mortal Kombat

via pinterest.com

I know, you may be thinking "but wasn't Freddy Kreuger in Mortal Kombat X?" Yes and no. Freddy was in the 2011 Mortal Kombat and the mobile version of Mortal Kombat X. While this is a valiant effort to appease the fans, it is just not enough in my opinion. I don't just want to see Freddy turn a Xenomorph into something that looks like it came out of a paper shredder.

I want to watch in acidic blood fly across my living room in 1080p as 14 year old me screams in delight as that fan-fiction I wrote is finally realized.

To throw salt on the wound, Mortal Kombat X lets you re-enact the already famous duel of Aliens Vs. Predator, while dangling the possibility of a Freddy vs. Jason fight night in front of you without letting you truly witness its glory.

11 Team Freddy

via plus.google.com

For many, the Twilight series is in itself a horror with a poorly written passive female protagonist and enough offensive clichés to drown the city of New York.

Twilight introduced the idea of "Team Edward" and "Team Jacob" for whomever an individual thought was the hottest/cutest. There are debates between the pale vampire and muscle coated werewolf littered all over the internet.

What about "Team Freddy" and "Team Jason?"

Crossovers introduce a lot of debate and loyal fans like to cheer for the characters they love the most.

Unlike Edward and Jacob though, Freddy and Jason are not around to sparkle and brood. Even monsters have traits we may find more appealing than those in the Twilight series. Perhaps horror fans also feel betrayed that beloved horror icons like vampires and werewolves are being used for corny romances.

10 Pull My Finger

via pinterest.com

This meme fills me with many questions. Most obviously, what happens when Jason pulls the finger? He's not an intellectual powerhouse, so he probably will. But what will happen? Will the glove just come off? Will he be horribly cut? Or will Freddy actually break wind? If that were to occur, then we would be forced to consider what the gaseous expulsion of a predatory nightmare monster sound like. Would it be silent but deadly?

Also, there is the question of Jason's reaction.

The infamous hockey mask, while normally giving this humanoid figure much appreciated elements of inhumanity, fear and mystery, now prevents us from reading Jason's thoughts on Freddy's proposal. Is he amused? Frightened? Curious? To both mysteries, the answer may forever elude us.

9 Do You Like Horror Movies?

via twitter.com

The witch hooked nose and burns are fine, but those teeth are nightmares.

I hope that's not your face, because Freddy's teeth are nasty.

Speaking of Freddy's face, a fact about his look: His classic appearance was defined in the sequel Freddy's Revenge. You can thank makeup FX artist Kevin Yagher for Freddy's appearance as you see it in Freddy vs. Jason. This artist also did other terrific designs in movies such as for Chucky and The Crypt Keeper.

Maybe the best thing about being a horror movie fan is surprising people. I think society has an expectation of horror fans to be trouble-makers, violent, and rude. You could be a happy, timid, and beautiful human being and make everyone's jaw drop when you say, "I love horror!"

8 He Waits For You

via memecenter.com

How could you do that to him, Karen? He was there. Waiting. For you. You don't know the hours he stood there in the dark woods, waiting for you and your friends to go drunkenly streaking by. You didn't know that he stayed up late last night, polishing his mask and sharpening his machete in anticipation. Maybe if you'd paused for a moment to look while he was ending Brian (who, I will remind you, was your least favorite friend), then you might have realized all the things he did for you, to make this moment as memorable as possible.

But you didn't. You just turned and walked away.

You didn't even give Jason the respect of properly running, you just did that weird half-run power walk you always do. In hindsight, that's probably why he caught you.

7 Always Follow Your Dreams

via lentila.info

Aw, a cute Freddy!

In this case, don't follow your dreams. Do not be tricked by cute Freddy. I'm going to teach you how to deal with Freddy.

Freddy has many powers such as dream manipulation, possession, making damage from a dream become real, shapeshifting, dream to real world teleportation, superhuman strength, mind-reading, sucking in victim souls for power, and transforming other people into things like cockroaches.

Sounds invincible right? Not really.

From what we've seen in Freddy movies, he also has weaknesses. For example, his power stems from his own urban legend. If the legend ties and people have forgotten him, then he is trapped in Hell and can't harm anybody.

Also we found out in Freddy vs. Jason that Freddy is afraid of fire, probably because that stuff ended him as a mortal.

6 I Know How You Feel Man

via movieweb.com

This is a popular meme, but we love it! 19 Kids and Counting is from the realm of reality TV. As it may be easy to guess, the show is about a couple with 19 kids.

So what connects that to Freddy vs. Jason? Well, all the kids in 19 Kids and Counting have names that begin with J. So... J for Jason?

In fact, the family's 12th kid is a Jason.

How did Jason get his name? The name "Jason" is a combination of "Josh" and "Ian", Victor Miller's (the creator of the Friday the 13th series) two sons, and "Voorhees" was inspired by a girl that Miller knew at high school whose last name was Van Voorhees. Miller thought Jason was a "creepy-sounding name" for his monstrous character. Don't tell Jason from 19 Kids and Counting!

5 He's Real?!

via pinterest.com

Elm Street is looking a little chilly! Freddy may not be the only danger, look at those slick roads.

Looks like CBS Atlanta got to interview a Freddy look-alike. Believe it or not, there is an Elm Street in Atlanta as well. The street has beautiful homes up for sale if anyone is interested.

Burns aside, Freddy is an easy character to cosplay. This man seems to have even dressed as him on accident, it's that easy! Knife-glove, striped shirt, fedora, and you're basically all set.

I know we've already covered films of Freddy as a human, but this Atlanta man would have been perfect for the role. I hope he's been clued in to this meme so he knows what to do for Halloween!

4 He'll Chase You

via memecenter.com

Jason does put a lot of effort into chasing women.

In a world saturated by ideal man memes, this one really captures the elements of an ideal man. Jason is strong and can protect you from other monsters. Jason is big and you can live the dream of riding on your man's shoulders. He can pick you up bridal-style and carry you like a princess.

Jason has a sweet heart.

He began ending people to avenge his mother. So if you end and he loves you, he will make a shrine for you and line up his victims to show that he is avenging you. He's mysterious and quiet; his heart is a maze which you need to conquer. What an ideal man!

3 Romantic Weekend

via memecenter.com

Okay, Jason's ending ways aside, Camp Crystal Lake would be a beautiful place to go for a weekend. Before Jason drowned in the lake and cursed the area in 1957, I'd love to visit.

Knowing what I know though, I'd never want my kids to go to camp there.

It was camp counselors un-attendance and bullies that led to Jason's drowning, so there's that. Those counselors and bullies ruined a perfectly beautiful camping spot. Now because of them there is poison in the water, fires, and a dangerous man. Now we've got "Camp Blood" instead of the beautiful Camp Crystal Lake.

No one wants to spend a weekend at Camp Blood unless they are some hardcore horror fanatics. Actually...now I want to pack my things and go.

2 Snow Globe

via memecenter.com

I think all of these particular snow globes are sold out. That's definitely a collector's item. There is also a genius creative element to the red snow. Such an innocent object to be used for an intense depiction is crafty.

Of course, the attacker in this snow globe is Michael Myers from Halloween, not Jason. Why does Jason want to buy it?

Also a strange thought but...does Jason even carry money?

Michael and Jason crossovers have been done, though they did not receive the critical acclaims like Freddy vs. Jason. These two characters do seem to have more in common than Freddy and Jason. Like Jason, Michael wears a mask. Also Michael and Jason have more in common in terms of ending methods. They rely more on brute force while Freddy is more into environment manipulation.

1 Does She Dream About Me?

via pinterest.com

The best part of this meme is how far these ladies are sitting from the Freddy cosplayer. They want nothing to do with him. Their bodies are huddled together and facing towards each other almost as if to form a protective barrier.

"Don't look at him Barbara...don't look and maybe he'll leave."

There is also no evidence that this was a convention. You see no other cosplayers, just this Freddy cosplayer sitting on the edge of a bench. He actually looks kind of sad and lonely. He needs friends. We need a Jason cosplayer to come sit with him. We need horror cosplay solidarity.

Don't be sad Freddy, I commend your efforts. Your make-up and glove is amazing and you deserve to be recognized.
